Hello, my name is Cindy McCartney and I am so glad that you have made it to my page! Life presents with challenges daily and we all need support at times. I firmly believe that therapy is a collaborative process and am here to help guide you and your family.
I received my Bachelors in Psychology from the State University of New York at Brockport. I then made the journey to Texas to pursue my Masters in Counseling. I attended the University of North Texas which is world renown for their play therapy program. I was lucky enough to train with some of the great names in the play therapy world. I then continued on to become a Registered Play Therapist through the Association of Play Therapy.
I have worked with a wide range of ages and populations over the past 14 years. I started out my career working at an inpatient psychiatric hospital. I then moved into the field of outpatient community mental health where I worked with both adults and children providing intake assessments and counseling services. I later began to specialize more with children as I gained experience working at the children’s advocacy center providing groups and individual counseling for children who are survivors of abuse. From there I continued my experience working with children and their parents through various Head Start Programs. This eventually led me to working with children in the foster care system and post adoption. Additionally I have found a passion for working with adults helping to navigate through current stressors and past traumas. I have extensive experience working with abuse, attachment, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and trauma.
I believe that the mind body connection is integral for healing. Traumas can be big or little and occur at any point in the lifespan. With seeing the need for further therapeutic techniques to work through trauma I sought out training and certification in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy). This is an evidence-based treatment modality to access and reprocess traumatic memories and feelings that are stored in the nervous system.
I am excited to bring my experience to private practice and provide guidance to you and your family.
