What Is EMDR Therapy

The human brain is amazing at processing and storing information. During difficult times the brain’s natural coping mechanisms can become overloaded. When this occurs experiences can go unprocessed or cause one to be blocked from moving forward. This can be thought of much like when you get a splinter. The pain remains until whatever has punctured the skin is removed.

These blocked or unprocessed events are stored in the form of emotions and or physical sensations. These can be retriggered by events that evoke similar emotions. EMDR helps to remove the block or splinter allowing the proper connections to be formed in your memory networks so that healing can begin.

EMDR is an effective therapy for both children and adults. Since children developmentally process things differently EMDR and play therapy will be used in combination.
