What is Play Therapy

“Play is the work of childhood.” Mr. Rodgers

Play Therapy is provided to children age 3-10 years of age.

Play is vital for children to explore and gain understanding of their world.

Developmentally children do not have the words to tell us what is going on. Play therapy with a trained professional can help children access their thoughts and feelings without verbalization. Play allows children to play out their inner most world. In a play therapy session, a child is given a safe space to unapologetically be themselves. Children are given the ability to make their own choices and have a sense of control.

Play represents a way for children to organize their world experiences. Toys in play therapy are selected to help children communicate, provide empowerment, work through conflict, develop self-sufficiency and heal from trauma.

Limits and choices are provided as part of the therapeutic process to help children feel safe, learn self- control, and increase self-esteem.
